Vicki went a completely different route than the rest of us with her layout this month! We all decided to play up the colour of the paper line in our layouts, but Vicki focused on using just a couple coloured accents to make her photo pop. It may just be me, but I think it’s a really cool layout because, even though you can see that there is a lot of colour, it is the black and white that really stand out.
Vicki kept the clusters around her photo relatively simple and in the limited yellow-green-pink colours so that they would add to the photo without taking any attention away from it. She also decided not to edge her fussy cut pieces with a marker. Normally she uses a dark marker to cover the white edge you get from fussy cutting, but in this case it would have made the piece look bolder and stick out too much since the background is quite light.
Vicki fussy-cut some of the magnolias from the patterned paper and put them at the top and bottom of the layout to create a frame-like effect along with the borders on the sides. This helps the layout from looking too plain or too skinny in the middle. She has also added some dark green die-cut leaves to the flowers to give them some dimension without adding any distracting colour.
I love the little sequin Vicki added to her “Sweet” sentiment. It reminds me of using a tack or a brad to attach the paper piece, but is just a bit more sparkly (and easier!).
I hope we have given you some ideas today! You can always come see us in-store to see all the monthly layouts in-person and get some inspiration from all the other samples we have up. Until next time!
