KELLY’S KORNER – Hocus Pocus Halloween Wreath

Hi ! Or should I say Howwwwwl!

There’s only 15 days to Halloween now. As always, the Urban Girls have a collection of cards and projects in the store to inspire you!  Like this Tiffany Lamp made by Laurie Yendal, can you believe it’s paper?  To see more of her awesome Halloween projects, stop by The Rogue Stamper!

Come on by for a look-see and any help we can offer with your seasonal projects. We still have room at our Halloween Crop too.  Yours truly will be there, it’s going to be lots of fun.

I’ve made a seasonal wreath for the store, it worked up quickly with a couple of easy tricks.

I always start with a donut shaped, chipboard base.

Then cover it with pleated paper and build up from there.
First, I cover the base with pleated paper. I use, Tim Holtz tissue paper.  Start with a 3 foot piece, fold it 3 times, then slice into 4 inch wide strips on a paper trimmer.  Then, fold each 4 inch strip in half and pink one side Now, finger pleat at your sewing machine while zig-zagging one edge. Simply fold 4 small pleats, put the foot down, zig-zag, lift foot and repeat.  Just 4 steps, easy-breezy.

Using Sookwang, tape the pleated tissue paper around the top/inside edge of the wreath form.

I purchased black tissue paper at the dollar store. Sew 3 layers together that are 4 inches wide. Fringe one edge.  Martha Stewart’s Fringe Scissors makes this a quick step.  Once sewn, crumple the fringe. Now tape the fringed black tissue paper around the wreath form, just under the pleated tissue paper layer.

You’re now ready to decorate to your hearts content!  I used my Memory Box Halloween dies, Leaf Dies and Kaiser Flowers in 4 colours. I bought Dollar Store spiders and glittered them with green glitter. My bow is a combination of black and orange Tulle and a black and white, chevron, gross-grain ribbon. We have the best ribbon selection in town, bar none!

Oh my, a spider has left us a message in her web.

The black cat, greeting banner and number 31 are all My Minds Eye, Something Wicked Chipboard Elements.

I’m loving their whole collection. It’s a cross between funky and vintage, with a mustachioed kitty and vintage inspired graphics.  Old and funky, hmmmm, remind you of anybody?

See you next week and until then remember, “If you can’t stir with the big girls, best stay away from the cauldron”.

So nice that you stopped by, thanks a bunch!

  1. Hello Texas Rose! It would be a riot if you could walk in the door and we could do a class together. You're so creative, maybe a mixed media class? Maybe a banner for your market table? The sky's the limit x Thanks for swinging by!

  2. Bunnyslippers!!! hahaha, I love your stage name. There is a multitude of stuff you can do with Sookwang, be sure too pick up extra. I like to lay it across a card edge and sprinkle it with glitter. Ta-Da….sparkly card. Or even little table cards at Thanks Giving? It's darn versatile. Thanks for being here my dear x K
